Regine Velasquez Plans Final Concert, Hints at Retirement
Regine Velasquez, known as Asia’s Songbird, has revealed plans for a final solo concert to mark her 40th year in the music industry. During an interview with Billboard Philippines Volumes, Velasquez said she intends to hold the concert in October but has not yet set a date or venue. She described this event as her “last big solo concert” while clarifying that she has not finalized the details.
Velasquez shared that although this concert will be her last solo show, she will continue working on projects through 2027. After that, she plans to retire from the entertainment industry. She explained that retirement will give her freedom from the pressure to meet everyone’s expectations, rather than signaling the end of her career.
Her husband, Ogie Alcasid, helped shape her view of retirement. Velasquez said that to her, retirement means not stopping completely, but rather having the flexibility to do what she wants without feeling burdened. She said, “Retirement means doing whatever it is you want to do, but it will free me from the pressure of trying to please everyone, which I like.”
Velasquez addressed common ideas about retirement as well. She rejected the notion that retirement is about doing nothing at home. Instead, she wants to keep active. She even joked about potential new hobbies, such as sewing or joining a tailoring team, signifying her desire to remain engaged in meaningful work.
She also acknowledged changes in her voice as she ages, noting that singing has become more challenging. Velasquez encouraged fans and artists alike to understand that such changes are natural over time.
Recently, Regine Velasquez was named Woman of the Year by Billboard Philippines during its Women in Music award ceremony. In her acceptance speech, she urged her fellow artists to continue dreaming and working hard.
With her final solo concert on the horizon, Velasquez prepares to celebrate a remarkable 40 years in music while gradually stepping back from the spotlight on her own terms.
