Roman Reigns Shares Thoughts on The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Considers WWE; Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Noted
Roman Reigns spoke about his experiences and views related to The Rock and Cody Rhodes in a recent interview on the SI Media podcast. When asked about the changing plans for the WrestleMania 40 main event, where he was initially slated to face The Rock but ended up against Rhodes, Reigns said that the opponent did not matter to him. His focus remained on defending his spot at the main event and his championship. He described himself as the “hot chick” that everyone wanted to take down, emphasizing his position as the pinnacle of WWE at the time.
Initially, after winning the men’s 2024 Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes said he did not plan to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. This led to The Rock seemingly taking that spot. However, fan backlash against this change caused Rhodes to reverse his decision, and The Rock turned heel, dubbing himself The Final Boss and aligning with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns teamed up at WrestleMania 40 Night 1 to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins. The following night, Rhodes beat Reigns to win the WWE title.
Reigns also discussed the possibility of facing The Rock in the future. He stated that if the fans loudly demand the match and The Rock shows willingness, WWE could make it happen. The Rock had returned unexpectedly to WWE programming last month but has not made clear his intentions or appeared again since.
Meanwhile, boxer Tommy Fury hinted at exploring a wrestling career with WWE. He posted a video from backstage during WWE’s UK tour praising several Superstars like Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes. Fury said he looked forward to possibly entering WWE and climbing into the ring one day. His brother, Tyson Fury, had a single WWE match in 2019 and has made appearances at WWE events since then. Tommy has built a respected boxing career with an undefeated record and a notable victory over Jake Paul. Given his ties to the Paul family, WWE might consider him as a future opponent or ally within their storylines.
In NXT news, former North American Champion Oba Femi has not been seen on NXT episodes or backstage since his loss at Halloween Havoc on October 27. After debuting in April 2023, Femi won the NXT Breakout Tournament and the North American Championship. His reign lasted 272 days before Tony D’Angelo defeated him, followed by a rematch loss at Halloween Havoc. WWE has provided no official explanation for his absence, leaving room for speculation whether he is recovering from injury, being prepped for a main roster move, or simply resting from television following his losses. Femi remains a strong contender to pursue the NXT Championship upon his return.
