Yahoo Explains Privacy Choices for Users on Its Websites and Apps
Yahoo, part of the Yahoo family of brands, has shared details about how it handles user privacy across its websites and apps, including Yahoo and Engadget. The company operates a digital advertising service called Yahoo Advertising and uses cookies and similar technologies to deliver its services.
How Yahoo Uses Cookies and Personal Data
Cookies are small files that websites store on your device. Yahoo uses these files, along with similar tools like web storage, to provide its websites and apps for users. The company also uses cookies to confirm user identity, apply security measures, and prevent spam or abuse.
Yahoo collects data on visitor numbers, device types (for example, iOS or Android), browser use, and visit duration. These pieces of information are gathered in an aggregated way. They do not tie to any individual user.
Privacy Choices Users Can Make
When visiting Yahoo’s sites or using its apps, users can accept or reject cookies and other tracking technologies. By clicking “Accept all,” users agree that Yahoo and its partners—including 251 organizations within the IAB transparency and consent framework—can store and access information on devices. This includes using precise location data and personal details such as technical identifiers.
Technical identifiers refer to system-generated strings of letters and numbers. They may identify a device or a user and include browser cookies, device IDs, and IP addresses. These identifiers may also derive from hashed or encrypted email addresses or statistical matches of other IDs.
Yahoo and its partners may use this data for purposes like analyzing user behavior, displaying personalized ads and content, measuring ads and content effectiveness, conducting audience research, and developing new services.
User Control Over Their Data
If users prefer that Yahoo and its partners do not use cookies and personal data for these purposes, they can click “Reject all.” To customize privacy settings, users can select “Manage privacy settings.”
Users can revoke consent or change privacy choices at any time via links labeled “Privacy and cookie settings” or “Privacy panel” found on Yahoo websites and apps.
Yahoo invites users to read its Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for more information about its data practices. This transparency helps users understand how Yahoo respects their privacy and offers control over their personal information.
