Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents
Roman Reigns shared his thoughts during an interview on the SI Media podcast hosted by Jimmy Traina. When asked about the shifting plans for WrestleMania 40’s main event opponent—whether it would be The Rock or Cody Rhodes—Reigns said he was focused on being in the main event regardless of the opponent.
He explained, “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with. It didn’t matter who it was. The task was the same; defending my title against those trying to stop history from happening.”
Initially, after Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he said he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, making it appear The Rock would take the spot. However, fan reaction led to a reversal, with Rhodes stepping back into the title picture. The Rock then turned heel as The Final Boss and aligned with Reigns. Their team defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, while Rhodes reclaimed the WWE title from Reigns on Night 2. Reigns also addressed whether a one-on-one match with The Rock might happen in the future. He emphasized the role of fan desire, stating, “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.” The Rock returned to WWE programming unexpectedly last month at Bad Blood but has not revealed any further plans since.
Tommy Fury Considers Wrestling Career
Tommy Fury, a professional boxer and brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, recently shared footage from backstage at a WWE show during their UK tour. In a YouTube video, Fury praised WWE superstars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. He also expressed openness to wrestling in the future, saying, “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?”
Tyson Fury previously appeared in WWE for one match at Crown Jewel 2019. More recently, he made headlines by knocking out WWE’s Austin Theory in the crowd at Clash at the Castle 2022. Tommy Fury remains undefeated in boxing and is the only person to defeat Jake Paul. WWE could see potential in pairing the Fury brothers with the Paul brothers, given established ties and past storylines.
Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Questions
Oba Femi, former North American Champion and winner of the NXT Breakout Tournament, has not appeared at NXT tapings since his loss at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Fightful Select reported that there has been no mention of Femi backstage or on broadcasts since then.
Femi first appeared on NXT television in April 2023. He won the Breakout Tournament, then captured the North American Championship from Dragon Lee. His reign lasted 272 days before he lost the title to Tony D’Angelo last month. Femi lost their rematch at Halloween Havoc.
His current absence may be related to a reset period after back-to-back losses, possible injury, or speculation about a main roster call-up. Fans may expect him to return as a contender for the NXT Championship, possibly targeting Trick Williams.
