Celebrating a Legend: Mike York's Jersey Retirement Ceremony at Seilersee on August 30th

Mike York’s Jersey Retirement Scheduled for August 30 at Seilersee

The Iserlohn Roosters proudly announce that they will retire the jersey of former player Mike York on August 30. This significant event will take place at the Balver Zinn Arena during the NRW-Cup weekend, marking a special moment for the team and its fans.

A Celebration of Legacy

Mike York, a notable figure in the Roosters’ history, will return to Iserlohn with his family for the ceremony. The event will honor his contributions to the team and recognize his jersey number 78, which the Roosters have retired in his name. This retirement coincides with the 25th anniversary of the club, a fitting tribute to a player who has left an indelible mark on the organization.

"I am deeply honored that my jersey will be displayed at the Seilersee," York stated. "I look back at my time here with nothing but positive memories, and I am thrilled to return and see familiar faces."

A Remarkable Career

York first joined the Iserlohn Roosters during the 2004-2005 season while the NHL faced a lockout. He returned to the team from 2011 to 2016, helping shape one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Under his leadership as captain, the Roosters achieved three consecutive quarterfinal appearances in the DEL playoffs. The pinnacle of his tenure came in the 2015-2016 season when the team secured its highest-ever league finish, placing third in the regular season. Over his career with the Roosters, York played 300 games and scored 293 points.

Following his playing career, York transitioned to coaching. He currently enters his ninth season as head coach at Lake Superior State University in the NCAA, continuing to influence the next generation of players.

Looking Ahead

The Roosters’ club president, Wolfgang Brück, expressed excitement about the ceremony. "Mike York is one of the best players to ever wear our colors. We are pleased to finally honor him with this deserved recognition."

Further details regarding the ceremony’s schedule and surrounding activities will be shared in due course. The jersey retirement not only celebrates York’s achievements but also serves as a reminder of the Roosters’ rich history and their commitment to honoring past players who have shaped the club.

Fans can look forward to joining the festivities on August 30, where they will commemorate a beloved player and celebrate the Roosters’ legacy.
