Ruth’s passion for flight began as a teenager living next to two former Northwest Airlines pilots in Burnsville. Recognizing her potential, they introduced her to flight simulators, including the McDonnell Douglas DC-10. "I flew it around for a half-hour and said, ‘Oh yeah. I love this. In 1982, Ruth graduated from the University of North Dakota, a leading flight school where her photo now hangs prominently. Ruth achieved the rank of No. 17 on Delta’s seniority list out of over 17,200 pilots. Though stepping away from commercial airliners, Ruth plans to keep flying on her terms. She holds a seaplane rating obtained at age 19 and intends to revisit that skill.
