ETSU Health Opens Travel Clinic to Support International Travelers

Kingsport, TN — ETSU Health has introduced a new Travel Clinic located within its Infectious Diseases department in Kingsport. This clinic aims to assist patients in preparing for international travel by offering personalized medical consultations, vaccinations, and health advice tailored to their destinations.

Dr. Matthew R. Krolikowski, an infectious diseases physician, leads the clinic. He provides guidance based on each traveler’s planned itinerary, health history, and the specific risks associated with their destinations. The clinic’s services include reviewing and administering vaccines, planning malaria prevention, and advising on other health concerns travelers may face abroad.

Dr. Krolikowski explained, “International travel can expose patients to health risks they may not encounter at home. Our goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized guidance so patients can prepare appropriately and focus on enjoying their trip.”

This new clinic brings travel medicine services closer to home for residents of Northeast Tennessee and nearby areas. Until now, many had to travel outside the region to receive such specialized care. Dr. Deidre Pierce, chair of ETSU’s Department of Internal Medicine, emphasized that the clinic reflects ETSU Health’s commitment to expanding access to specialty care locally.

The clinic recommends that travelers schedule consultations ideally eight weeks before departure, though they will accommodate shorter time frames when needed. It specifically serves those visiting friends or family overseas, participating in mission or service trips, studying abroad, or traveling for business. The clinic also provides planning assistance for travelers with chronic health conditions.

Beyond pre-travel preparation, ETSU Health Infectious Diseases treats patients who experience illness after returning from international trips.

Residents interested in scheduling an appointment or learning more about the clinic can call (423) 930-8337.
