Important Reminder: Register for International Travel with WVU to Ensure Compliance and Safety

West Virginia University Issues Reminder for International Travel Registration

West Virginia University (WVU) has reminded all faculty and staff who plan to travel internationally for university-related purposes to complete their travel registration. This measure applies whether travelers will carry university-owned or personal equipment associated with university programs, including email access, during their trips.

The registration requires employees to provide information that helps WVU comply with U.S. Export Regulations. Collecting these details as part of the travel registration process ensures travelers meet federal export control rules and receive coverage through International SOS for health emergencies and evacuation while abroad.

WVU recommends completing the registration at least six weeks before the trip. Faculty traveling with students must follow the Education Abroad process before the trip. Vanessa Yerkovich can be contacted for assistance with this process. All student travel with faculty, whether for credit or non-credit purposes, must go through Education Abroad.

The Office of Global Affairs also reminds staff to register any planned visits by foreign visitors through their International Visitor Registry. After receiving registration details, WVU’s Export Control Office reviews visitors to check if they appear on federal restricted party lists or are linked to restricted entities. The office may contact hosts for more information and provide guidance on export control requirements where needed.

For questions regarding international travel registration or visitor procedures, WVU recommends contacting Tara George-Jones, international risk manager at the Office of Global Affairs, via email at Tara.George-Jones@mail.wvu.edu.

This reminder aims to help WVU maintain compliance with federal regulations and ensure the safety and security of university travelers and visitors. For more information on international travel requirements, university community members can refer to WVU’s official resources.
