Erie County Confirms Measles Case Linked to International Travel as New York Reports 12 Cases in 2026

Erie County, N.Y.—Health officials have confirmed a new measles case in Erie County, marking the first since 2018. The individual tested positive on Thursday after returning from overseas travel.

Symptoms of measles often begin with fever, cough, pink and watery eyes, or a runny nose. These are usually followed by a distinctive rash. Doctors advise the public to verify they have received the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine to protect against the disease.

The New York State Health Department recently reported 12 measles cases across the state so far in 2026. Six of these cases have occurred in New York City. In comparison, 2025 saw 48 confirmed measles cases statewide, with 20 in New York City and 28 in other areas.

Officials continue to monitor the situation closely and encourage vaccination to prevent further spread.
