Phu Quoc International Airport Welcomes New Direct Flights from Russia, Enhancing Winter Tourism

Phu Quoc International Airport, located in the Phu Quoc Island special zone of An Giang Province, recently celebrated a milestone with the arrival of a direct flight from Russia. Vietjet Air Initiates Direct Route from Vladivostok to Phu Quoc

The inaugural flight, operated by Vietjet Air on an Airbus 321-VJ 3522, completed a seven-hour journey from Vladivostok, Russia, to Phu Quoc Island. It carried 220 Russian passengers who participated in a full-package charter tour organized directly by Anex Vietnam Co., Ltd. The package includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodation, sightseeing tours, and local services. This introduction reaffirms Phu Quoc’s position as a rising holiday destination, particularly attracting tourists from Russia in growing numbers.

Warm Reception for Russian Visitors

Upon arrival, Russian tourists received an official welcome from Phu Quoc authorities, underscoring the island’s reputation as a safe and hospitable location for international travelers. Officials highlighted Phu Quoc as an attractive winter destination that offers not only stunning natural scenery but also diverse cultural experiences. The arrival of Russian visitors symbolized the island’s increasing global recognition and cemented its status on the international tourism map.

Expansion of Charter Flights from Russia and CIS Countries

Following this inaugural flight, Phu Quoc International Airport is preparing to manage a higher volume of international flights. The island will host regular charter flights from 14 Russian cities and other member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). These flights, operated by Vietjet Air and Azur Air, will offer 75 to 80 flights each month, bringing over 10,000 international passengers monthly. The rise in passenger traffic is expected to boost local tourism and contribute positively to the island’s economy through increased demand in hospitality, transportation, and related services.

Belavia Airlines Begins Flights from Minsk to Phu Quoc

Belavia Belarusian Airlines added to the growth with its first direct flight from Minsk, Belarus, to Phu Quoc International Airport on October 12, 2025. Flight BRU 8197 carried more than 280 Belarusian tourists, establishing a historic link between the Belarusian capital and Phu Quoc Island. This service will operate on a regular schedule every 10 days, accommodating approximately 300 passengers per flight. This further enhances Phu Quoc’s role as a tourism hub, attracting European visitors seeking a warm climate during the winter months.

Phu Quoc’s Role in Vietnam’s Tourism Strategy

The reopening of direct flights from Russia and other countries represents a strategic advancement for Phu Quoc’s tourism development. These efforts align with Vietnam’s wider tourism objectives aimed at maintaining the country’s appeal as a year-round vacation spot. Phu Quoc stands out as an ideal winter destination due to its beautiful beaches, affordable travel options, and opportunities for cultural exploration.

International flights not only promote Vietnam’s tourism offerings but also strengthen cooperation with global airlines and travel agencies. This cooperation boosts Vietnam’s position in the Asia-Pacific tourism market. Phu Quoc is also gaining recognition for sustainable tourism, supporting the preservation of local environments and cultures.

Preparation for the APEC Forum in 2027

Phu Quoc’s tourism expansion takes on added importance as the island is set to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2027. The restored direct international flights will play a key role in the island’s ability to support trade, regional cooperation, and tourism during this event. An increasing number of international visitors will establish Phu Quoc as a global destination for business and leisure travelers.

As a “safe and friendly” location, Phu Quoc’s growing international arrivals, especially from Russia, emphasize its ability to connect with diverse markets while advancing Vietnam’s sustainable tourism initiatives. The island’s contribution to economic development promises ongoing benefits for residents and tourists alike.

Looking Ahead: Phu Quoc’s Tourism Future

Phu Quoc prepares for further growth in its international tourism sector. The island aims to strengthen partnerships, increase air travel access, and promote environmentally responsible tourism. This strategy will help maintain its reputation as a top tourist destination capable of handling increasing visitor numbers while offering quality service and supporting ecological sustainability.

With new direct flights from Russia and neighboring countries, Phu Quoc enhances its appeal as a winter getaway and reinforces its place on the global tourism map.
