Alaska Airlines Ushers in New Era of Global Travel with Nonstop Tokyo Service from Seattle

Alaska Airlines Launches Daily Nonstop Service to Tokyo

Seattle, WA – May 12, 2025
Alaska Airlines has marked a new chapter in its international travel offerings with the launch of daily nonstop flights between Seattle and Tokyo Narita, operated by Hawaiian Airlines. This service connects the Pacific Northwest to Japan, enhancing travel options for business and leisure travelers alike.

A New Era of International Flights

The introduction of this route is part of Alaska Airlines’ broader strategy to establish Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) as a leading global gateway. Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Air Group, emphasized that the airline plans to expand international routes from Seattle to at least twelve destinations by 2030, building on its existing network of 104 nonstop locations across North America.

"Seattle is the closest point in the contiguous United States to Tokyo, with our routes being significantly shorter than those from San Francisco or Los Angeles," Minicucci noted. This geographical advantage positions Alaska Airlines favorably in attracting international travelers.

Initial Routes and Future Plans

The Seattle-Tokyo service will be complemented by another long-haul route to Seoul Incheon, set to commence on September 12. These two destinations serve as the inaugural international routes of what Alaska Airlines anticipates becoming a robust offering of long-haul flights.

There has been strong demand for the Tokyo service, with half of the tickets sold originating from cities across the United States, highlighting its appeal beyond Seattle.

Quality Service and Amenities

Hawaiian Airlines, with nearly 15 years of experience flying to Tokyo, is bringing its hospitality to this new service. Passengers can expect a variety of onboard choices across three classes: Business Class, Extra Comfort, and Main Cabin. Business Class features full-flat seating with premium dining options infused with Japanese and Hawaiian flavors, along with a suite of entertainment choices.

All travelers can enjoy high-speed, complimentary Wi-Fi powered by Starlink, ensuring connectivity during the flight. In addition, each class offers a specially curated amenity kit in partnership with Hawaiian lifestyle brand Noho Home.

Positive Impact on Local Economy

Ryan Calkins, Port of Seattle Commissioner, praised the significance of this new service for both international travel and local trade. "This is a monumental step for our hometown carrier," he said, noting the boost to the overall economy and increased choices for passengers.

Mileage Plans and Loyalty Benefits

Passengers can benefit from Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan, which offers enhanced earning potential for elite status. Those booking directly through Alaska’s website can accumulate miles that contribute toward achieving elite status and enjoy various perks along the way.

Travelers can also link their HawaiianMiles and Mileage Plan accounts to receive reciprocal elite benefits while flying with either airline.

Conclusion

With the launch of its Seattle-Tokyo service alongside future international routes, Alaska Airlines is poised to solidify its position as a prominent player in the transpacific market. The airline’s commitment to expanding its service offerings demonstrates its confidence in the value of international travel for the Pacific Northwest region. As Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines partner to deliver exceptional service, travelers can look forward to enhanced global connectivity in the coming years.
