Roman Reigns Shares Thoughts on The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and WrestleMania 40
Roman Reigns recently opened up about The Rock and Cody Rhodes during an interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina. Reigns reflected on the shifting plans for WrestleMania 40’s main event. Fans had expected a match between Reigns and The Rock, but Cody Rhodes ultimately faced Reigns instead.
Reigns said the opponent did not matter to him as long as he was in the main event. Reigns described himself as “the guy that everyone wanted to dance with” and said, “We just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is.” He explained that his challengers wanted to stop history and take away his position at the top.
Rhodes had initially said he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, preferring The Rock to take that spot. However, fan backlash led Rhodes to reverse his stance. This change coincided with The Rock turning heel, adopting the name The Final Boss, and joining forces with Reigns.
At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1. Then, on Night 2, Rhodes defeated Reigns to win the WWE Championship. Asked if a Rock vs. Reigns match could still happen in the future, Reigns replied that such a match would depend on fan demand. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he said.
The Rock appeared unannounced at WWE’s Bad Blood event last month but has not clarified his next move since then. With a WarGames match involving The Bloodline scheduled for WWE Survivor Series, The Rock could return again and set up a future showdown with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Expresses Interest in WWE
Boxer Tommy Fury hinted at a future in WWE wrestling during a recent visit backstage at a WWE event in the United Kingdom. Fury posted a video on YouTube showing his time backstage with several WWE Superstars, including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
Fury said, “I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?” He thanked WWE for their hospitality and expressed appreciation for the wrestlers he met.
Tommy Fury is the younger brother of Tyson Fury, a former heavyweight boxing champion who appeared once for WWE in 2019. Tommy has built a successful boxing career of his own, with a flawless 10-0 record and a notable win over Jake Paul. Given his connections to the Paul family, Tommy Fury could potentially cross paths with Logan Paul, a WWE Superstar and former United States Champion. A tag team involving the Fury brothers and the Paul brothers could attract a broad audience.
Oba Femi Absent from NXT Following Recent Losses
Reports indicate that NXT star Oba Femi has not been seen at recent NXT tapings since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Fightful Select noted the absence, but no official reason has been given.
Femi made an impressive start in NXT starting in April 2023, winning the Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship. He held the title for a record 272 days before losing it to D’Angelo last month. Femi also lost the rematch at Halloween Havoc.
His current absence might allow him to regroup after back-to-back losses. Alternatively, WWE could be keeping him off TV until interest in his character builds again. Some speculate a main roster call-up or injury recovery could also be reasons behind the break.
When Femi returns, he stands as a strong contender to challenge for the NXT Championship. He could be a credible candidate to dethrone current titleholder Trick Williams.
