Mexico Celebrates Record-Breaking Year in Tourism: 98.2 Million International Visitors in 2025!

Mexico Sets New International Travel Record in 2025

Mexico, ranking as the sixth-most-visited country worldwide, reported its highest annual international tourism figure in 2025. The Mexican Ministry of Tourism announced that the country welcomed 98.2 million international visitors last year. This total marked a 13.6 percent rise from 2024, setting a new historical record for Mexico.

Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, shared that international travelers spent nearly $35 billion during 2025. This spending represented a 6.2 percent increase over the previous year’s tourism receipts. About 47.8 million international visitors stayed at least one night in Mexico. This group grew 6.1 percent compared to 2024. Another group of tourists included cruise passengers, who do not count toward the overnight visitor total.

Rodríguez Zamora commented, “The end of 2025 confirms that Mexico is experiencing a solid and sustained moment in tourism. Never in the history of our country have so many visitors arrived in Mexico in a single year. This result reflects a strong, resilient sector with a clear vision of the future.”

Throughout 2025, visitor numbers climbed steadily. Visitors from Canada increased notably. Canadian arrivals rose 13 percent in the first half of the year. This increase came as Canadian visits to the United States dropped by roughly 25 percent amid worsening international relations. Mexico appears to have benefited from this shift.

Looking forward, Mexico aims to leverage its status as one of three host countries for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Matches will take place in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. Teams from South Korea, Denmark, Ukraine, Colombia, Mexico, and Jamaica will compete in these cities.

The Mexican tourism sector’s record-breaking year highlights its growing appeal and resilience. Travel experts expect the upcoming World Cup to continue driving visitor interest in Mexico.
